UMW Men's Basketball Falls at Marymount, 67-59

ARLINGTON, VA - The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team overcame an early 10-point deficit, briefly took the lead, but eventually fell at Marymount University, 67-59, on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 6-8 in CAC play and 9-13 overall.

The Eagles fell behind early, trailing by 10 points five minutes into the game. Less than seven minutes later, the Eagles held a six-point lead, thanks to a pair of Mike Fumai (Rockville, Md., Richard Montgomery) three pointers, a pair of baskets from Eric Rolander (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga), and a slam dunk by Brandon Altmann (Vienna, Va., James Madison). An 11-0 Marymount run gave the Saints the lead which they would not relinquish. Marymount led, 35-31 at halftime.

Mary Washington was able to stay close in the second half, despite the Saints shooting a blistering 56% from the floor (26-46), including 6-10 three pointers. UMW shot just 33.3% from the floor, with 10 three pointers. The Eagles were outrebounded, 36-28, but commited 22 turnovers and committed 16.

Freshman guard Rocky Ullah (Stafford, Va., Brooke Point) scored 14 points to lead the Eagles, while Altmann added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Qaiser Ahmed (Falls Church, Va., George C. Marshall) was the third Eagle in double figures with 11 points. Marymount was led by Stephen Simoneau's 12 points.

The Eagles will host Salisbury University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in another CAC contest that will follow the Eagles' annual alumni game.
