UMW Field Hockey Falls at Washington, 2-1

Washington College scored the game winning goal with 5:31 remaining in the game to take a 2-1 decision over visiting University of Mary Washington on Sunday in Chestertown, Md. The Eagles fall to 6-4 on the season.

Washington scored first in the contest, as Kritin Bircsak scored just three minutes into the contest. The Eagles tied the score at one with 15 minutes left in the first half, as freshman Florence George (Virginia Beach, Va., Princess Anne) scored on an assist from Heidi Sheehan (Scituate, Mass., Scituate) following a penalty corner.

The Shorewomen broke ahead to stay with a score by Kelsey Kemp with 5:31 remaining.

Mary Washington outshot the hosts, 14-9, and had 14 penalty corners to nine for the hosts. Chrissy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va., Robinson) had five saves for the Eagles, while Elena Nicholoff had eight saves for Washington.

The Eagles will visit Christopher Newport University on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
