Christopher Koehler has been added to the UMW cross country and track and field staff as an assistant coach for 2026-27.
Coach Koehler is a longtime resident of the Fredericksburg Area. He ran cross country and track at Courtland High School, where he achieved All-District and All-Region Honors. He is an alumnus of UMW, graduating in 1993.
As a distance runner at UMW, he was the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) runner up in cross country in 1992. In 1993, in indoor track, he was the runner-up in the 1500m in the Mason Dixon Conference, setting the school record. He also was a member of the distance medley team that set the school record (both records have since been broken).
In outdoor track, he was the CAC 1500m champion. After college, he continued his running success with a 9th place finish overall at the 1994 Marine Corps Marathon, a 72nd finish overall at the 1995 Boston Marathon and a 5th place finish overall at the 2001 Marine Corps Marathon.
Since college, he has coached cross country and track as several high schools in the area, producing many runners who have gone to compete in college, several at the Division I level.
