The 23rd ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team won a pair of matches, over Washington MD College and #22 Sewanee, on Saturday at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season.
UMW opened the day with a 5-2 win over WAC. UMW swept all three doubles matches in gaining the doubles point.
Trevor Rein and
Asher Willenborg won at one, 6-0,
Ryan Battaglia and
Evan Fisher won at two, 6-3, and
Will Fromherz and Eli Campell won at three, 6-3.
In singles,
Jack Riordan won at one, 6-4, 6-2, Rein won at two, 6-2, 6-4, and
Cooper Lehman won at five, 6-4, 6-3.
Ryan Gipner scored a 6-0, 6-2 win at six.
The Eagles then gained a 4-3 win over #22 Sewanee, starting with wins at one doubles from Rein and WIllenborg at one (6-3), and Gipner and Riordan at three, 6-1.
That point would be important, as the teams split the six singles matches. UMW gained wins from Willenborg at one, 6-2, 6-1, Riordan at three, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, and Fisher at four, 6-3, 6-1.
The Eagles will play just one match on Sunday, as they host Virginia Wesleyan University at 12:30 p.m.
