The 23rd ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team opened the 2026 spring season with 5-2 victories over Shenandoah University and #35 Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday at the Hegmann Family Courts. The Eagles open at 2-0 on the season.
The Eagles opened the Shenandoah match by sweeping all three doubles matches.
Trevor Rein and
Asher Willenborg won at one, 6-2,
Jack Riordan and
Ryan Gipner won at two, 6-4, and
Will Fromherz and Eli Campell were victorious at three, 6-0.
In singles, Gipner won at two, 6-1, 6-4,
Cooper Lehman won at four, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2, and
Rithik Manchala won at six, 6-0, 6-3.
The afternoon match saw the Eagles take a 5-2 win from Franklin & Marshall. Again, UMW won all three doubles matches, as Rein and Willenborg won at one, 6-4,
Evan Fisher and
Ryan Battaglia won at two, 6-0, and
Will Fromherz and Riordan won at three, 6-1.
The Eagles will be back in action on February 21 against Washington College at 9:00 am and Sewanee at 4 p.m.
