The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team hosted Longwood University, George Mason University, Johns Hopkins University, and Washington College this weekend for the annual UMW Kickoff Classic.
In singles, Eagle victories included freshman
Ryan Gipner over Johns Hopkins' Brian Yi, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8,
Will Fromherz over JHU's Jack Wexler, 7-5, 2-6, 10-8,
Aidan Meehan over Wash College, 6-4, 6-4, and
Jack Riordan over GMU's Ekansh Kumar, 8-5.
Doubles wins came from
Trevor Rein and
Evan Fisher, 7-5, over Longwood,
Keldibek Kozhoev and Rithink Manchala over Longwood, 7-5, Rein and Fisher over George Mason, 6-2, Riordan and Fromherz over Mason, 6-3, and Gipner and Battaglia over Hopkins, 6-4.Â
The guys will host the ITA Regional Championships on October 2-5.
