The 21st ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to #26 Christopher Newport University on Sunday evening in Newport News, Va. The Eagles slip to 15-10 on the season.
The match began with three extremely close matches in doubles. UMW dropped a 6-4 decision at three, before falling, 7-6 (6), at one to drop the doubles point.
Will Fromherz and
Matt Scott were tied at 6-6 when play stopped with the clinching point.
In singles, CNU scored a win at one, before the Eagles gained some momentum with three-set wins from senior
Brock Ladehoff at two (6-3, 1-6, 6-1 over Bhuvanesh Kumaresan) and from sophomore
Evan Fisher at three (6-3, 1-6, 6-1 over Ryan Monroe). But the Captains gained wins at four and five to clinch the match. At the time of completion,
Albert Vladimirskiy was ahead after one set.
