The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to 27th ranked Carngie Mellon University on Thursday afternoon at the Hegmann Family Courts. The Eagles slip to 11-5 on the season.
The Eagles dropped the doubles point, but the number two duo of
Evan Fisher and
Drew Campbell scored a 7-6 (1) win over Akshay Joshi and Takeshi Koey.
Trevor Rein and
Jack Riordan fell, 6-3, at one, and
Will Fromherz and
Matt Scott fell at three, 6-1.
In singles, the Eagles saw Riordan and Scott take their matches to a third set (or breaker). Riordan fell at four to Daniel Kong, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0, and Scott dropped a marathon breaker to Koey at five, 3-6, 7-6, 11-9.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday against Swarthmore College at 1:00 p.m.
