The 26th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team opened the spring campaign with a pair of 7-0 victories, over Gettysburg College and Averett University, on Saturday at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center.
In the Gettysburg match, the Eagles scored the doubles point by topping the Bullets in all three matches.
Trevor Rein and
Jack Riordan won at one, 6-3,
Ryan King and
Matt Scott won at two, 6-3, and
Drew Campbell and
Will Fromherz were victorious at three, 6-3.
In singles, Rein won at one, 6-1, 6-4,
Albert Vladimirskiy won at two, 6-1, 6-4, and Scott won at three, 6-1, 6-0. Riordan won at four, 6-2, 6-0, Campbell won at five, 6-2, 6-1, and
Ryan Meyer won at six, 6-3, 6-1.
In the Averett match, doubles wins came from
Brock Ladehoff and
Evan Fisher at one, 7-6, King and Vladimirskiy at two, 6-4, and Riordan and Scott at three, 6-2.
Singles saw Ladehoff win at one, 7-5, 6-4, Fisher claim a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win at two, and King take a 6-1, 6-1 win at three. Vladimirskiy won at four, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, Scott won, 6-2, 6-2 at five, and Riordan claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win at six.
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host seventh ranked Johns Hopkins University at 5 p.m.
