Ryan Battaglia and
Ryan Gipner advanced all the way to the doubles final of the ITA South/Southeast Regional Championships this weekend at the Battleground.
Battaglia and Gipner defeated Luke Brodsky and Soren Rudin-Aulenbach of Franklin & Marshall College, 8-6, in the first round, and then topped Stefan Johnson and Owen Kilmer of Haverford in the second round, 8-4. In the round of 16, the Eagle duo topped Dominick Suwak and Lucas Beasley of Shenandoah, 8-7 (3), advancing them to the quarterfinals.Â
Battaglia and Gipner then defeated fifth seeded Asher Willenborg and Gurv Suri of Salisbury in the quarters, 8-5. In Sunday's semifinal, the pair downed Johns Hopkins' Dylan Blenkiron and Brian Yi, coming back froma 5-3 deficit, to win, 8-7 (7). Battaglia and Gipner fell in the final to Mukundh Boopathi and Joshua Kim - also from Hopkins, 8-2.
In other doubles matches, Eagles
Trevor Rein and
Evan Fisher advanced to the quarterfinals, with an 8-5 win over Stevens Institute in the second round after a first round bye.
Will Fromherz and
Jack Riordan advanced to the quarters, with a pair of victories.
In singles play, Rein advanced to the quarters, with a 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 win over Justin Ilie and a 6-2, 6-1 win over Gabe Naftoly. Riordan scored a first round victory as well. First year
Cooper Lehman scored a pair of wins in the B1 draw.
