This weekend, the UMW men's rugby team hosted Kutztown University a game that was a must win for the Eagles, against an opponent the Eagles haven't beaten in 30 years. This streak was broken this weekend.
UMW learned from its mistakes against Army and took points when they came, going for the posts three times in the first half. Kutztown scored two very fast trys in the first half from quick turnovers and even quicker attacking speed. With only a few minutes left in the first half, a great run from
Tian Pretorius and another kick from
Sebastian Schefermann saw UMW up 16-14 at halftime.
The second half didn't start out the way UMW planned with Kutztown scoring minutes into the half, but UMW held firm and picked up the level of play. UMW's "Bomb Squad" came off the bench 10 minutes into the half and completely turned the game around. UMW's line out was struggling but the new front row was dominating the scum. With the forwards now controlling the game UMW's back line had some more freedom to play out wide and in the last 15 minutes completely took control with three tries coming from open play.
Final score UMW 38- Kutztown 19
