UMW Men's Rugby Falls at #7 Army, 27-17

The UMW men's rugby team traveled to West Point this weekend to take on seventh-ranked Army, and dropped a tight 27-17 decision to the Knights.

The game stared out exactly as UMW wanted, with the Eagles winning every gain line in attach and gaining massive forward momentum. The Eagles entered the Army 22 eight times during the match but only came away with points twice, and this would come back to bite them in the second half.

The second half started out strong for UMW, putting Army on the back foot again. But a bouncing kick that went the length of the field led to the Eagles' first yellow card and a penalty try for Army. UMW held the line with 14 men but shortly after the first card came another, and with that another penalty try for the home team. When UMW got both men back on the pitch, they took control again, but it was too little, too late. Army held off UMW to win 27-17.

UMW will face Kutztown at home this weekend at the Battleground.
