The University of Mary Washington men's swim team narrowly fell to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon in Lancaster, Pa., 135.5-126.5.
The Eagles got early second place finishes from
Larry Almariento in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:34.70) and from
Jakob Robinette in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.65), while
Zachary Cherry finished third in the 200, just under two seconds behind Robinette. Almariento, later in the meet, took home the win in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.01).
In the 100-yard backstroke,
Sam Roundtree took home the victory (53.60) and
Kyle Johnson finished in third (55.98). Then in the 100-yard breaststroke, Will Burkey placed second (1:02.63), while Dan Rojas took home third place (1:03.98). Roundtree would also go on to finish second in the 100-yard freestyle, while Johnson went on to win the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.56).
In the 200-yard butterfly, the Eagles swept the podium as
Johnathan Zimmer (1:58.92) finished first, and was followed by
Patrick Stern (2:06.46) and
Evan Shelton (2:07.37). Zimmer then placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke, while Burkey and Rojas both followed with second and third place finishes. Zimmer recorded his third victory of the day in the 200-yard IM.
The Eagles are back in action next Saturday at Frostburg State at 1 p.m.
