UMW Men's Swim Dominates Southern Virginia, 198-61, on Friday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team dominated Southern Virginia University 198-61 in Fredericksburg, VA on Friday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 8-3 on the season. 

The Eagles opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay from Paul DatovechAidan Deege, Zack Cherry, and Will Burkey at 1:37.36. Conrad Tan started off his individual races strong taking 1st in the 400 IM at 4:14.44, with Logan Dewalt, Boone Fleenor, and Brendan Huber-Wilker taking 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the 200 freestyle with times of 1:51.04, 1:51.21, and 1:53.54.

The UMW men swept the top 3 spots in the 100 backstroke as Datovech,  Alex Aung, and Jack Schrieber reach sub-1-minute times at 55.17, 55.46, and 57.08. This trend followed for the next 2 men's events as Mary Washington took the top 3 spots in both 100 breaststroke and 200 butterfly. Aidan Deege took 1st in the 100 breaststroke at 59.04, while Johnathan Zimmer did the same in the 200 butterfly at 1:58.26. The 50 freestyle was fully taken by Eagles Ellis Winfree and Darl Everett, placing 1st and 3rd with quick times of 21:94 and 22.68. Will Burkey took 1st in the 100 freestyle at 48.13, while his teammate Zack Cherry took 3rd at 49.49. Kyle Johnson and Jack Schrieber took 1st and 2nd in the 200 backstroke with times of 1:59.91 and 2:04.36, while yet another sweep was conjured by the Eagles in the 200 breaststroke by Conrad Tan, Stephen Wallach, Aidan Deege, and Jack Dragone with times of 2:10.55, 2:16.31, 2:18.51, and 2:21.00. The 500 freestyle was taken by Kyle Johnson at 5:04.88, Johnathan Zimmer took 1st in the 100 butterfly, and Conrad Tan took 1st in the 200 IM to round out the individual events for the Eagles.

The Eagles' finished strong while their 200 freestyle relay teams took 1st,3rd,4th, 5th, and 6th with times of 1:26.20, 1:26.80, 1:29.99, 1:31.45, 1:31.97, and 1:32.40.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday at the METS Championships.
