The 13th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated 23rd ranked Bates College on Friday evening at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles improve to 8-3 on the season.

The Eagles started with a sweep of doubles, as Moses Hutchison and Matt Miles took the decision at one, 8-4, and Ryland Byrd and Derek Hagino at two and Michael Fleming and Patrick Hughes each took thrillers (8-6 at two and 8-7 at three) to put the Eagles up, 3-0.

In singles, the UMW depth proved to be too much, as Byrd won at four, Hagino at five, and Cole Tecce at six.

The Eagles will host TCNJ at 11 a.m. and Southern Va. at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
