#17 UMW Women's Tennis Tops #11 Johns Hopkins, 7-2, on Saturday

The #17 University of Mary Washington women's tennis team topped #11 Johns Hopkins, 7-2, on senior day on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground Complex. The Eagles improve to 16-4 overall. The win over Hopkins is the Eagles' first since the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

UMW opened with three doubles wins. Shelby Harris and Kait Brogan won at the one, 9-7, before Taylor Diffley and Mackenzie Smith won at the two, 8-6. Sara Fioretti and Caroline Mosberg won at three, 8-6, to complete the sweep.

In singles action, Shelby Harris won at the two, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 before Taylor Diffley won at the four, 7-5, 6-2. Mackenize Smith won at the five, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 and Chrissy Gaul won 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

The top seeded Eagles are back in action on Tuesday as they host fifth seeded York in the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament.
