#20 UMW Women's Tennis Drops 6-3 Decision at #6 Johns Hopkins on Sunday

The 20th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision at sixth ranked Johns Hopkins University on Sunday evening in Baltimore, Md. The Eagles fall to 14-7 on the season.

Mary Washington picked up a win at one doubles, as junior Shelby Harris and freshman Kait Brogan, ranked eighth in the Atlantic South region, defeated fourth ranked Ashnaa Rao and Shannon Herndon, 8-4. UMW trailed, 2-1, after doubles, as Johns Hopkins won by 8-2 scores at two and three.

In singles play, Harris defeated Rao at one singles, 6-3, 6-3, in a key match, as Rao is ranked fourth in the region and Harris eleventh. Freshman Caroline Mosberg won at three singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6, for the Eagles' third point of the day.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday at 4:15 pm when they host St. Mary's College in a Capital Athletic Conference semifinal. A court naming ceremony for UMW Athletic Hall of Famer Christy Copper will precede the match at 3:30 p.m.
