The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated a pair of nationally ranked opponents in 26th ranked Denison University and #40 Stevens Institute on Saturday at the Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Eagles started with an 8-1 win over Denison, winning all three doubles matches before taking five of six in singles, all of which in straight sets.
UMW's depth shone through in the 6-3 win over Stevens, as the Eagles fell at one and two doubles and one singles, but carried all the rest of the matches in a 6-3 victory to improve to 4-1 on the season. The Eagles are 2-1 against Division I teams and now 2-0 against nationally-ranked Division III schools.
Mary Washington will host North Carolina Wesleyan College on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the ITC.
