The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 win over Swarthmore in the morning, then won 9-0 against Elizabethtown in the evening. The Eagles move to 7-5 on the year.
In the morning session, UMW swept all three double matches. Lindsay Raulston and Shelby Harris were 9-7 winners at number one, while Alina Suyama and Mackenzie Smith won 8-3 at two. Alex Ritter and Ashley Barrow completed the sweep 8-0 at number three.
Singles saw Shelby Harris win at number two; 6-3, 6-2 while Smith was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at number four. Chrissy Gaul picked up a singles win at number five; 6-2, 6-1. Paige Weinburg picked up a win for the Eagles to complete the 7-2 win.
The match against the Blue Jays, UMW won all nine matches to roll to a victory. The same three doubles teams that won against Swartmore, also picked up wins against Elizabethtown. Raulston/Harris won 9-7, while Suyama/Smith and Ritter/Barrow each won 8-4.
In singles, Harris (6-0, 6-0), Smith (6-0, 5-7, 10-6), Ritter (6-0, 6-1) and Weinburg (6-3, 6-1) all picked up their second singles wins of the day. Berri Flood and Anna Richman also picked up wins. Flood was a 6-1, 6-4 winner with Richman winning 6-1, 6-1.
The Eagles return to the courts this weekend at the UMW Blue and Grey Invitational. The Eagles will face #20 Skidmore (4:00 p.m.) on Friday, Oberlin (10:00 a.m.) on Saturday, and UC Santa Cruz (12:00 p.m.) on Sunday.
