The Univeristy of Mary Washington men's tennis team picked up
two wins on Saturday over Southern Virginia (9-0) and Washington
and Lee (7-2). The #17 Eagles move to 11-2 overall.
The Eagles bested #22 Washington and Lee, winning two of three
doubles and five of six singles against the Generals. Tyler Carey and Evan Charles
teamed up to win 8-5 at one doubles, while Brandon
Griffin and Stratton
Gilmore won 8-3 at two doubles.
Five Eagles picked up wins in singles. Carey won at number
one (7-5, 4-6, 7-5), while Charles (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) won at three. David
Lunding-Johansson (7-6 (9), 6-4), Alex Blakhin
(5-7, 6-0, 6-4) and Griffin (four and zero) won the bottom half of
the lineup.
The Eagles easily rolled over the Knights, 9-0, winning every
match on the day. All six singles matches were won in straight
sets.
UMW returns to action next Saturday when they host Bates at
12:00 p.m.
