#28 Men's Tennis Downs #27 Stevens, 6-3 on Saturday

Swarthmore, Pa.-- The #28 University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated #27 Stevens Institute of Technology, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles won two of three doubles, and four of six singles matches on the day. The Eagles remain perfect at 3-0 on the year.

The day started with a trio of doubles matches, in which UMW won two. Tyler Carey and Evan Charles teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, 9-8 (7-4) over Ben Foran and Antonio Perch. Brandon Griffin and Stratton Gilmore also picked up a double victory. The duo downed Michael Feldman and Brett Derrington 8-3 at No. 3.

Four Eagles earned singles wins to clinch the UMW victory. Charles and Gilmore each picked up wins at No. 2 and 3 respectively. Charles defeated Foran 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-2; while Gilmore was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Feldman. Alex Blakhin and David Lunding-Johansson were the other winners. Blakhin was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Perch, while Lunding-Johansson won two and one over Derrington.

The Eagles return to the courts next weekend with matches against Vassar (9:00 a.m.) and

Denison (3:00 p.m.) on Saturday before taking on N.C. Wesleyan on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. All matches are part of the UMW Invite, taking place at the UMW Tennis Center.
