The 24th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated #23 Washington & Lee University, 6-3, on Saturday at the UMW Tennis Center. The Eagles improve to 9-6 on the season.
The Eagles led after doubles, 2-1, picking up 8-2 wins at two and three. In singles play, senior Sam Wichlin won at two, 6-4, 6-3, and then UMW won three of four three-set matches, as Alex Blakhin won at three, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Evan Charles clinched the match at four, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Moments later, David Lunding-Johansson won at five, 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-1.
Mary Washington will rreturn to action next Saturday when they visit 18th ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 1:00 p.m.
