Kevin Aquino (Port Orange, Fla., East Stroudsburg Pa.) won a pair of tiebreakers, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3) in the clinching match as the 22nd ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team edged \#7 Cal Lutheran University, 5-4, in the consolation semifinals of the ITA Indoor Tennis Nationals on Saturday.
The Eagles, who led, 2-1, after doubles thanks to wins from Aquino and
Riley Baver (Wayne, Pa., Radnor) at two in comeback fashion, 9-8 (3) and
Will Apperson (Louisville, Ky., Ballard) and
Alex Blakhin (Moscow, Russia, Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) at three, 9-7, fell behind, 4-3 after the early round of singles. After Baver won, 6-1, 6-1 at five, Aquino won a wild match with numerous service breaks in straight sets to give the Eagles the win.
UMW is playing Trinity Texas for fifth place this evening at the Indoor Tennis Center.
