UMW Field Hockey Drops 4-2 Decision at York PA

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision at York College of Pa., to end its season in the CAC Quarterfinals.

In the first quarter, the Spartans got on the board first scoring with 4:59 left. The lead wouldn't be for long as UMW tied the game when Sophomore Jess Smith played a ball into the circle and followed a rebound off of the goalie. York looked to take the lead back after drawing a penalty corner in the final minute but the Eagles shut it down and kept the score tied.  

Early in the second quarter, Junior Bella Urcia played a ball towards the cage and was tipped in by Senior Lexie Dixson to gain the lead. York responded 2 minutes later scoring off of a penalty corner. Going into halftime, the Eagles and Spartans were tied at 2-2.

Going into the third quarter, York started on the offensive end and found the back of the net at 12:12 bringing the lead back to the Spartans. The Spartans would score again before the quarter ended bringing their lead to 2. The Eagles fought hard but couldn't find the back of the net for the remaining time. Neither team found the back of the net in the fourth.

UMW led in shots 17-13 as well as penalty corners 8-7. UMW goalkeeper Jillian Lawrence made 6 saves for the Eagles, while Kaitlyn Wallace made 7 for the Spartans.  Junior Jackie Smith recorded a defensive save for the Eagles.  

The Eagles end their season with a record of 7-11.
