The No. 1 ranked University of Mary Washington men's soccer team had five members -- four first teamers -- named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region VI Team on Tuesday evening.
Senior keeper
Freddy Rogers, senior midfielder
Nelsar Castillo, senior forward
Carter Berg, and junior forward
Sammy Amorose were named to the All-Region VI First Team. Meanwhile, senior midfielder
Jordy Santana was a Third Team member as well.
Rogers led the No. 1 ranked Eagles in net for the entire season, recording a 19-2-2 record, which is the second most single season wins in program history. Too, Rogers was in net for 16 consecutive games where UMW didn't suffer a loss, which set a new program record this season. Rogers logged over 2,000 minutes in net this season that included 63 total saves and a 0.84 goals-against-average mark and nine shutouts. Rogers was a Third Team All-Region selection last season.
Berg picked up his third All-Region honor -- and first First Team honor -- after becoming just the fifth member of the Eagles' 100-point club this past season. In his career, Berg netted 40 goals and 30 assists, 14 scores came this past season -- a career-high -- as did nine of his assists. The Reston, Va. native recorded five braces this past season against NC Wesleyan (twice), Christopher Newport (twice), and Bethany. He scored the game-winning golden goal in overtime to clinch the C2C Championship -- the Eagles' third straight -- for UMW. Too, he had a game-winning pass against Ohio Wesleyan in the Round of 32 on Santana's game-winning goal in the 89th minute.
Amorose stepped up for the Eagles this past season in a big way as he picked up his first career All-Region honors. In UMW's second game of the season against Rutgers-Newark, Amorose tied the program's single-game goal record with four in the first half. He followed that up by scoring nine more goals in 2024 with seven assists for a career-high 13 goals. For Amorose, he recorded five game-winning goals as well.
Castillo netted a career-high five goals this past season, which included four assists. The Falls Church, Va. native recorded a brace against Mount Union in a 3-1 victory in Richmond, Va. on Sept. 13. Tuesday marked Castillo's first All-Region honor.
And finally, Santana was a leader on both the defensive and offensive sides for Mary Washington this past season as he netted a career-high four goals and eight assists for the Eagles this season. Santana netted the aforementioned game-winning goal against Ohio Wesleyan that sent UMW to the Sweet 16 for the third consecutive season. Too, Santana scored against Salisbury, Rhodes, and Rowan. The All-Region honor is the first of his career.
