The University of Mary Washington volleyball team opens the season ranked 10th in the nation, according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's national NCAA Division III coaches poll, released on Tuesday.
The Eagles, who finished 31-4 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals last season, posted 1001 points in the poll, their highest preseason ranking ever. Defending champion Calvin ranks first with 1573 points, including 62 first place votes. Emory is second with 1395 points, followed by Washington University (who defeated UMW in the NCAA Quarterfinals in five games), Northwestern (Minn.), and Southwestern (Tx.).
UMW will open the season on September 2 at the Haverford College Invitational.
