Lawson Leads Four Eagles on All-CAC Volleyball Team
Freshman hitter Hannah Lawson (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) was named the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and also gained first team all-league honors in leading four University of Mary Washington volleyball players on the All-CAC teams, released today. Sophomore hitter Laura Gomez (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) and juniors Katie Shiflett (Weyers Cave, Va., Fort Defiance)and Tola Adebanjo (Overland Park, Ks., Blue Valley Northwest) were named to the All-CAC second team, giving UMW a league-high four picks on the teams.

Lawson's selection marks the third straight year that UMW has had the Rookie of the Year, as Gomez won the award last season, and Shiflett in 2008. Lawson led the Eagles in kills (260) and service aces (45), and was second on the team in digs (224).

Gomez hit .278, tops among front line players for the Eagles, with 209 kills, 38 aces, and 69 blocks. She gains all-conference honors for the second straight year.

Shiflett, the Eagles' setter, gained second team honors after posting 759 assists, 34 aces, 149 digs, and 10 blocks. She led the team with a .352 hitting average with 34 kills.

Adebanjo gains All-CAC recognition for the first time, and coming one year after missing nearly the entire season with a knee injury. She posted 178 kills, 35 aces and 149 digs for the Eagles, who finished the year with a 19-9 record and advanced to the CAC Championship.
