UMW Volleyball Sweeps Hood, 3-0

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team swept a 3-0 decision from visiting Hood College on Tuesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action. Game scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-14 for UMW, which improves to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Mary Washington led throughout game one, and used a spurt of 13 straight points after falling behind 3-0 in the second game to claim that one, 25-15. 

Freshman Hannah Lawson (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) had seven kills and five aces for UMW, while sophomore Laura Gomez (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) added five kills and sophomore Cleo Baker (Baltimore, Md., Bryn Mawr School for Girls) scored five kills and three blocks. Katie Shiflett (Weyers Cave, Va., Fort Defiance) had 11 assists and Sammy Hogue (Springfield, Va., West Springfield) added eight for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will compete in the Elizabethtown College Tournament on Friday and Saturday this weekend.
