In nine seasons as the head women’s tennis coach at the University of Mary Washington, Patrick Catullo has led the Eagles back to greatness. The Eagles spent the entire 2008-09 season ranked in the top 15 nationally, after the 2007-08 squad advanced to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals for the first time since 1993.

The Eagles have become more and more of a national championship-caliber team each year under Catullo’s tenure in Fredericksburg, and have posted a cumulative record of 157-63, including a mark of 132-46 over the past seven seasons.

A Mary Washington alumnus, Catullo has led the team to nine Capital Athletic Conference championships and nine NCAA Tournament appearances after coaching for five years at Broward (Fla.) Community College. While at Broward, Catullo produced 30 state champions, 12 national champions, and 23 All-Americans. A two-time NJCAA National Coach of the Year, his Seahawk teams posted a 76-22 overall record, including a 43-1 conference mark.

Prior to his work at Broward CC, where he also worked as sports information director and assistant athletic coordinator, he served as an assistant coach at Flagler College and as a tennis pro at the ATP Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla. He is a member of the United States Professional Tennis Registry.

“There is a distinguished honor about the women’s team at Mary Washington, and a great tradition of success. I look forward to challenges as well as the successes that lay ahead for the UMW tennis team,” said Catullo, who with his wife, Linda, and two sons, Ryan and Chase, reside in Fredericksburg.
