The 15th ranked University of Mary Washingotn women's tennis team defeated 27th ranked Whitman College, 7-2, on Saturday at the Battleground, as part of the UMW Blue/Grey Classic.
The Eagles opened by sweeping all three doubles matches, as Kait Brogan and Taylor Diffley downed Hanna Greenberg and Mary Hill at one, 8-6; Ashley Barrow and Rachel Summers topped Jenna Gilbert and Allie Wallin at two, 8-2; and Caroline Mosberg and Danielle Mirabella downed Lori Skeng and Andrea Gu, 8-6, at three.
UMW then picked up singles wins from Hannah Jabush at five, 6-0, 6-0, over Gilbert, and at two, as Diffley beat Hill, 6-2, 6-0, for the clincher. Mirabella won at six over Sheng, 6-0, 3-2, ret., and Summers won at four over Greenburg, 6-4, 6-2. Whitman notched the final two points with a 7-6, 6-3 win at one and a 6-3, 6-3 win at three.
The Eagles (8-3) will host Bates College on Sunday at noon.
