UMW Women Widen Lead with Dominant Saturday at CAC Swimming Championships

The University of Mary Washington women's swim team continued to shine at the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday in St. Mary's City, Md.

The evening finals began with a win from the 200 yard medley relay of Maddy Rymer, Sara Dye, Megan Murphy and Anna Corley at 1:47.70. Corley then shaved over four seconds off her preliminary swim time in winning the 400 individual medley, at an NCAA provisional time of 4:28.74. Freshman Julia Geskey was second with an NCAA provisional time of 4:36.63, and Murphy placed third in the event, also with an NCAA time of 4:33.24 (in preliminary swims).

In the 100 yard butterfly, the Eagles finished 2-3-4-5-6, with freshman Carley Vaughn taking second at 57.71, and was followed by Lauren Wood, Erin Whitesell, Shannon Coryell, and Kait Luncher. Michaela Miller was fourth in the 200 freestyle.

Freshman Sara Dye won the 100 breaststroke at 1:07.65, after going 1:06.12 in the morning. The Eagles dominated the 100 backstroke, with Geskey taking first at 58.09, and was followed by Rymer in second, Vaughn in third, Taylor Mooney in fourth, and Kaylie Benson in fifth.

The 800 yard freestyle relay finished the night by winning with a time of 7:50.84, nearly ten seconds ahead of its nearest challenger. That relay consisted of Wood, Miller, Coryell, and Geskey.

The championships will conclude on Sunday.
