Through five seasons,
University of Mary Washington head women’s soccer coach Corey
Hewson has already laid a strong foundation in bringing the Eagles
back to national respectability after a an NCAA Tournament run in
just his second season at the helm, in 2009.
Hewson, who served as an assistant coach for the Eagles for seven
years before leading the team to an 8-6-5 record in 2008, pushed
the Eagles to 12 wins in 2010, and won the Capital Athletic
Conference for the first time in five years for the program. For
his efforts, he was named as the CAC’s Co-Coach of the Year.
The 2010 campaign saw the Eagles ranked regionally en route to
eight victories.
The 2012 season saw the Eagles
finish 13-2-3, and were ranked regionally throughout the season.
With just one senior on its roster, UMW will look to take another
step in 2013.
A 1999 graduate of Shippensburg University, Hewson was a three year
starter, with 15 career assists. He served as a graduate assistant
at Alfred University with the men’s program in fall 1999, and
has an NSCAA Advanced National License Distinguished Pass.
Hewson’s wife, Heather, is a 2000 Mary Washington graduate.
The couple, their daughters (Alex and Addison), and their German
Shorthair Pointers (Reagan and Truman), live in Fredericksburg. He
is a former Executive Board Member of the river conservation group,
Friends of the Rappahannock.
