Senior forward Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) scored three goals to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 8-0 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College on Tuesday at the Battleground. Sophomore midfielder Tina Rader (Springfield, Va., West Springfield) scored twice for the Eagles, who improve to 5-1-1 on the season.
Olson opened the scoring at 13:51 on an assist from sophomore Erin Reynolds (Oakton, Va., Oakton). Freshman Jenna Abraham (South Riding, Va., Freedom) upped the lead to 2-0 at 20:26, giving UMW a 2-0 halftime advantage. Rader scored her first of the day at 49:38, and Olson scored two minutes later on a Sam Lockley (Nantucket, Mass., Tabor Academy) assist.
Senior defender Karen Strat (Oakton, Va., Oakton) upped the lead to 5-0 at 54:27 off a deflection on a corner kick, and Olson completed the hat trick at 56:42 unassisted. Freshman Maggie Willis (Charlottesville, Va., Albemarle) scored her first goal at 66:01 on an assist from Emmalee Denkler (Arlington, Va., Yorktown), and Rader capped the scoring unassisted at 82:09.
Mary Washington led in shots, 20-2, and in corner kicks, 3-2. Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) and Charlotte Owens (Fairfax, Va., Robinson) each had one save for the Eagles, combining for the shutout.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action at 6:00 p.m.
