UMW Women's Soccer Tops Averett, 2-1

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team scored a goal in each half to top previously undefeated Averett University, 2-1, on Sunday at Averett. The Eagles improve to 5-1-1 on the year.

Freshman Tina Rader (Springfield, Va., West Springfield) scored her second goal of the year to get the Eagles on the scoreboard at 16:10 on an assist from junior Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel). Averett tied the score nine minutes later as Emma Brady scored for the Cougars.

Senior Gabriela Rangel-LaFuente (Vienna, Va., George C. Marshall) scored the game winner for UMW at 74:54 on an assist from Morgan Thompson (Richmond, Va., Cosby). The Eagles held a 16-8 advantage in shots, and a 13-1 margin in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) made three saves in picking up the win for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will host Frostburg State University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
