Senior attackers Allie Kimmelman and Lauren Callison each scored four goals and added one assist to lead the 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 13-5 win at 15th ranked Washington & Lee University on Saturday in Lexington, Va. The Eagles improve to 6-2 overall, while the Generals fall to 6-3.
Mary Washington opened the scoring by netting two goals in the opening five minutes, from Callison and sophomore Maggie Nunn. The Generals answered with the game's next two scores to tie the game with 19:30 left in the first half. The Eagles then went on a 3-0 run with goals from Callison, Kimmelman, and Jenna Petrucelli to raise a 5-2 lead with 5:51 to play in the half.
The Generals scored twice to close the half and once more in the opening minutes of the second to knot the score at five, but the Eagles then took over, outscoring the hosts, 8-0, over the final 29 minutes for the eight-goal win.
Kimmelman scored to start the run, and was followed with two scores each from Callison and Catherine Kennedy. Kimmelman capped the scorin with just over three minutes remaining on a free position shot.
The Eagles were outshot, 21-20, but held a 17-16 edge in ground balls. UMW led in draw controls, 12-8, and went a perfect 2-2 on free position shots. Junior Kathryn Stiltz had six saves for the Eagles.
Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday for a Capital Athletic Conference matchupo at St. Mary's College at 4:00 p.m.
