University of Mary Washington junior Sam Partonen and senior Carol Dye were named to the 2013 All-Capital Athletic Conference women's basketball team, as announced today. Partonen was named to the first team, and Dye to the second team.

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team, playing in its ninth Capital Athletic Conference championship in the past 10 years, fell on the road to top-seeded Marymount University, 53-42, on Saturday in the 2013 title game. The Eagles fall to 20-7 on the season.

UMW Women's Basketball Tops York, 55-49, to Advance to CAC Championship

The University of Mary Washington women’s basketball team defeated York College, 55-49, Wednesday night in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinal in the Anderson Center. The Eagles (20-6, 10-2 CAC), led by Sam Partonen’s 15 points, advance to their second-straight conference championship game. Tonight’s victory extends UMW’s winning streak against York to 12 games, and is their second against the Spartans (20-7, 8-4 CAC) in eight days. Carol Dye added in a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Haeuptle Named CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Mary Washington sophomore guard CLAIRE HAEUPTLE (Robbinsville, N.J./Peddie School) was selected as the CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 18, 2013 after her strong play off the bench last week, leading UMW in scoring in both wins that secured the second seed in the 2013 conference playoffs for the defending champions.

UMW Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season with 58-33 Win at St. Mary's

On a day when neither team shot a high percentage, the University of Mary Washington women's basketball relied on its trademark defense in gaining a 58-33 win at St. Mary's College on Saturday in both teams' regular season finale. The Eagles held the hosts to just eight second half points after trailing, 25-18, at halftime.
