The University of Mary Washington men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed on day one of the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Friday in Newport News, Va. After four events, the men stand in second place, while the women rank fourth.
The Eagles gained first places finishes in both the men's and women's 5000 meters. Jillian Weisbeck won the women's race at 18:38.54, and Jeff Gibson won the men's side at 15:03.60, which broke the meet record. Junior Davon Guerrier won his heat of the 60 meter hurdles at 8.27 and lowered his school record in the event.
The women's distance medley relay of Marin Bader, Ava Robb-McCord, Olivia Story, and Maggie Larkin took second at 13:09.45. In the preliminaries of the 60 meter dash, Jose Mundo posted the top time at 6.98 seconds. Rajai Walton was second in the long jump at 22 feet, 6.25 inches.Daniel Forjan and Ripken Smith finished 6-7 in the men's weight throw.
The championships will conclude on Saturday.
