UMW Rowers Volunteer to Clean Up Rappahannock River

Both the men’s and women’s rowing teams were up early Saturday morning, not for practice, but for a volunteer event with the Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR).

The teams were charged with trash collection and river cleanup on the western shore of the river from just south of the Old Mill Park up to approximately the corner of Charles Street and Riverside Drive.

20 bags of garbage were collected during the morning event along with plenty of mud from the recent flooding.

The teams hope their efforts to keep the river clean will pay off down the road when they return to rowing on the Rappahannock.

The Friends of the Rappahannock is a non-profit established to maintain the scenic beauty and water quality of the Rappahannock River and is always looking for new members and volunteers.
