Noah Sprinkel returns to the UMW men's tennis program for a second season as an assistant coach for 2016-17. A 2015 graduate of Coe College, Sprinkel capped his spectacular career by earning All-American honors from the ITA, the 10th men's tennis player to earn the honor in program history. Sprinkel also was named the ITA Central Region Senior of the Year, while collecting his third-straight Iowa Conference MVP award this spring. He also earned All-Iowa Conference honors in singles and doubles.
Entering the NCAA Tournament, Sprinkel had earned eight-straight wins, including six wins over regionally ranked opponents and one over a nationally-ranked opponent. Sprinkel became the fourth player in school history to play in three-straight NCAA National Singles Championships. Sprinkel dropped his first round match 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to Alex Ruderman of Emory. He finished the year with a 31-12 record, including a 13-5 mark in singles play despite playing only in the spring.
In doubles, he started the season at the number one position partnered with junior Riley Galbraith (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy), posting a 7-3 record. Later in the spring, Sprinkel began playing with junior Ryan Hickman (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson), splitting time between the number one and number two doubles positions. Sprinkel and Hickman combined to post an 11-4 mark. Sprinkel ranks fourth in school history in career doubles wins with 91, sixth in total wins with 170 and ninth in singles wins with 79.
