UMW Alum Quinn Swims Waikiki Rough Water event

On Monday morning, UMW swimming alumnae Phyllis Quinn (’77) did what she has done for the past 25 Labor Days—she ran off the beach in Waikiki to participate in the Waikiki Rough Water swim – a 2.4 mile open water swim on the shores of Hawaii.

This year the race lived up to its name as competitors were challenged by an unfavorable current which slowed times across the board and additionally were faced with a wind that created small swells throughout the course making it tricky for swimmers to spot landmarks.

At the end of the day, Phyllis finished 294 out of 889 competitors and was fourth in her age group, with a final time of 1:19.31.
