Mary Washington Senior Miles Davis and Sophomore Billy Senicola Sweep CAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Accolades

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington swept this week's CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards as senior Miles Davis and sophomore Billy Senicola collected weekly honors for April 17, 2017.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Mary Washington senior Miles Davis nabbed CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Eagles' attack with three goals and seven assists in a 2-0 week, helping UMW clinch the No. 4 seed in the CAC Tournament. Davis opened the week with one goal and two assists in a 9-7 win over Frostburg State, with both assists coming on key fourth-quarter scores. In the regular season finale vs. Marymount, he added two goals and five assists in a 15-10 victory. 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Mary Washington sophomore Billy Senicola was named CAC Defensive Player of the Week after allowing just 5.33 goals per game with a 65.2% save percentage in a 2-0 week for the Eagles. He stopped 11 shots in a 9-7 win at Frostburg State on Wednesday, allowing seven goals. On Saturday, he made four saves in 30 minutes as UMW topped Marymount, 15-10, allowing one goal.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

The CAC Tournament begins this week, with third-seeded Christopher Newport and fourth-seeded Mary Washington hosting first-round contests on Wednesday. CNU hosts No. 6 Southern Virginia while UMW hosts No. 5 Frostburg State, both with 4 p.m. starts ... Top-seeded Salisbury and second-seeded York earned first-round byes and will host the CAC semifinals on Saturday ... The CAC Championship game is set for Saturday, Apr. 29 at the highest remaining seed's home field ... CNU's Matthew Crist led the Captains with 10 points last week, including seven assists. Against St. Mary's on Wednesday, he broke the program's all-time season and career records for assists after posting six helpers against the Seahawks. The junior now has 37 assists this season, topping John Thompson's previous mark of 35 set in 2013. He also has 64 career helpers, breaking Will Geise's mark of 62. In addition to his six assists against St. Mary's, he also added a hat-trick in the game. His nine total points equaled the program's all-time single-game record ... Frostburg State junior Adam Gross totaled seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) as the Bobcats wrapped up the No. 5 seed in the CAC Tournament last week ... Marymount sophomore goalkeeper Grey Clarkson had a strong presence in the goal for the Saints in a 1-1 week to end the season, making a total of 23 saves on a 53.5%-save percentage. Against Wesley, he earned the win with seven saves, before following it up with a 16-save game against Mary Washington. Nathan Beard, the Saints' leading scorer, notched an eight-point week off five goals and three assists ... St. Mary's senior goalkeeper Max Alderman made a career-best 30 saves at Christopher Newport, which is second in school history for most saves in a game. Alderman was four shy of the current mark of 34 set by John Nocher '80 in 1980 against The College of William & Mary. He finished the week with 16 stops against Frostburg State. Max Groen paced St. Mary's at Christopher Newport with three goals and four points while adding two assists in the season finale against Frostburg State ... Salisbury senior Nathan Blondino broke the 90-point mark last week as he went for eight points off five goals and three assists. He notched four points in both games for the Sea Gulls and scored his five goals on just seven shots (71.4%). In the team's game against Cabrini, Blondino got his 123rd career assist to tie him with Salisbury Hall of Fame member, Dave Cottle for 5th all time in program history ... Southern Virginia sophomore goalkeeper Ian Arave earned two wins in goal this week. He played the final three quarters against Virginia Wesleyan in come-from-behind win, totaling 10 saves, and 15 on Saturday. Freshman Shawn Lamb led the Knights with eight goals and seven assists this week, including a five-goal, six-assist performance in win on Wednesday. He leads the Knights in all offensive categories this season ... Wesley freshman James Cella wrapped up the 2017 season with 238 saves, most in the CAC.
