UMW Men Win Third Straight, 67-45, Over York to Improve to 10-9

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team topped conference foe York, 67-45, on Monday evening in the Ron Rosner Area. With the win, the Eagles improve to 10-9 on the season, and 6-6 in Capital Athletic Conference play. The Eagles were led by another double-double from junior forward John Lutkenhaus.

The Eagles took control of the game early, and held a 15-point advantage at the half, at 30-15. Eric Shaw boosted the Eagles to their strong start with seven first half points. The Eagles were up 12-10 about midway through the half, but ended on an 18-5 run to cushion their lead.  TJ Jones, Mark Madison, and Emerson Burk each scored six points to help fuel the run.

York cut the deficit to 13, at 51-38, but back to back three pointers and an old-fashioned three from Lutkenhaus, plus a free throw from Jones, gave the Eagles a 61-43 lead with 3:46 remaining. Jones and Tyler Thurston each knocked down two free throws, and Madison nailed another jumper to put a cap on the scoring for the evening.

Lutkenhaus was 4-7 from the floor, with 2-4 three pointers, and 1-1 free throws, while hauling in 11 boards. Jones scored 17 on 7-13 shooting. Shaw added 13 and Madison had 11.

The Eagles shot 46.4% for the game (26-56), making 5-10 three pointers, and 10-15 free throws. York shot 39.5% (17-43), making 4-12 three pointers, and 7-8 free throws. The Eagles won the battle on the boards, 30-26, and York committed 21 turnovers to just 10 for UMW.
