UMW Men's Basketball Falls to York, 87-81, in CAC Play


The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped an 87-81 decision to visiting York College on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 6-10 on the season, and 3-5 in CAC play.

Senior center Brandon Altmann (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored 30 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, but UMW couldn't close the deficit to closer than three in the second half. The Eagles shot 50% from the floor in the second half, making 7-14 threes in the stanza, including three by Mike Fumai (Rockville, Md., Richard Montgomery). York shot 53.7% from the field, and made 20-25 free throws. The Eagles outrebounded York, 38-30, but committed 18 turnovers.

Mary Wshington outscored York, 48-40, in the second half, but began the frame with a 47-33 deficit. York was led by Nick Brady's 36 points on 13-17 shooting, while Kevin Whaley added 21 for the Spartans.

The Eagles will visit Wesley College next Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
