The 14th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime on Wednesday night in Lexington, Va. The Eagles, who see their five-game win streak snapped, fall to 5-2 on the season.
The Generals opened the scoring at 8:17 into the first half, as Lee Lauren Paolano scored unassisted. W&L held the lead throughout the rest of the first half, despite UMW holding a 12-7 advantage on shots.
Early in the second, UMW tied the score as freshman Bella Urcia scored on a Lexie Dixson assist just 1:36 into the second half. The Eagles would go on to outshoot the Generals, 9-4, in the second, but couldn't find the go-ahead score.
Washington & Lee found the game winner 8:07 into the first extra frame, as Haley Tucker scored her first goal of the season.
The Eagles will host fifth ranked Tufts University on Saturday at noon.
