Senior All-American Jenny Weir scored a pair of goals to lead 12th ranked Lynchburg College to a 4-0 victory over the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday in both teams' season opener. The Eagles were outshot, 20-12, and were unable to find the cage.
Lynchburg led, 2-0, at halftime, thanks to goals from Shelly Milks and Lindsay Leonard, and Weir provided two more scores in the second. UMW saw seven of its 12 shots go on goal, while 17 of Lynchburg's shots were on cage. Senior goalie Chrissy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va., Robinson) had 12 saves for Mary Washington, while Tiffany Frye had seven saves in recording the shutout.
Mary Washington will visit its second consecutive nationally-ranked opponent to start the year when they visit No. 1 ranked Salisbury University in the Capital Athletic Conference opener on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
