The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision at Bridgewater College on Tuesday afternoon. UMW slips to 16-15-1 overall on the season.
Bridgewater's offense started swiftly, scoring one run in the first, three in the second, and two in the third and fourth innings. UMW was limited to singles from Nick Bass, Tyler Ray, and Kevin France over the first eight frames, but the Eagles rallied with a solo home run from David Slupek, followed by a double from Ramsis Ruiz and an RBI single from David Lambertson in the ninth to clip the final score to 8-2.
Slupek's homer led the offense, with Ruiz adding a double. Sophomore Mason Riser took the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Ray allowed two unearned runs on one hit and three walks, and Alexander Ford pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Cole Gabriele struck out two in one inning of spotless relief.
UMW will be back in action on Wednesday when the Eagles host St. Mary's College of Md. in Capital Athletic Conference action starting at 3 p.m. at Dickinson Stadium.
