Mary Washington senior outfielder/infielder Will Wright (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Priory) and veteran mentor Tom Sheridan were selected the Player and Coach of the Year, respectively, after leading the Eagles to the 2010 playoff title and an automatic berth in this year’s NCAA Championship Tournament.
Wright, who was joined on the All-CAC first-team by fellow Eagle Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va./Gonzaga), is the 10th UMW standout to be named CAC Player of the Year and the first since 2007, when Eric Fitzgerald was honored by the CAC coaches. Wright and Rehbein are first-team honorees for the first time after gaining second-team All-CAC recognition previously in their career.
Sheridan, who guided UMW to its eighth team championship in the 20-year history of CAC baseball (and first since 2005), was named the CAC Coach of the Year for the ninth time in his career. His most recent Coach of the Year award corresponded with the most recent conference title.
York College, which finished second in the CAC regular-season standings and is riding a 10-game win streak in hopes of being selected for an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament, placed a conference best seven players on the All-CAC team, including three first-team honorees.
Senior pitcher Jason Christenberry (Yoe, Pa./Dallastown), senior outfielder Mike Connolly (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) and senior second baseman Rick Shumway (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) all earned first-team All-CAC recognition this season. Christenberry is a three-time All-CAC honoree while Connelly was a second-team pick in 2009.
Second-team All-CAC choices for York, each for the first time in their career, include junior shortstop Rob Klinck (Stanhope, N.Y./Lenape Valley Regional), senior catcher Jim Meehan (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor Central), junior first baseman C.T. Stanley (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall) and sophomore designated hitter Dustin Worthman (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca).
Spartan pitcher Joey Couch (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) also took the CAC Rookie of the Year award back to York for the fifth time since the award was added in 1997 and the third time in the past five years.
Regular-season CAC champion Salisbury placed six players on the 2010 All-CAC team, including first-team infielders Mike Celenza (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and Brian Green (Salisbury, Md./Parkside). Celenza, a senior first baseman, is a four-time first-team All-CAC player and was the 2009 Player of the Year while Green, a junior infielder, earned the All-CAC nod for the first time in his career.
The Sea Gulls, who are also hoping for an NCAA at-large bid, picked up second-team all-conference nods for sophomore pitcher Kyle Judson (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard), junior outfielder Andrew Miller (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), senior pitcher Kyle Starr (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) and senior third baseman/pitcher Chad Wolfe (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin). Miller is a three-time CAC all-star while Judson was honored for the second time in his career.
Wesley, which tied York for second place in the CAC regular season and advanced to the conference tournament championship game, gained two first-team All-CAC nods and two berths on the second team.
Infielders Grant Morlock (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) and Kevin Murphy (Middletown, Md./Middletown) were picked for the top team while sophomore infielder Rob Benedict (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and junior pitcher Kyle McGuire (Hartly, Del./Polytech) were second-team choices. Morlock earned first-team honors for the second-straight year while Murphy moved up to first-team this year after gaining second-team recognition in 2009.
A pair of Stevenson standouts, junior pitcher/outfielder Jeff Bihy (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) and sophomore first baseman Justin Anderson (Shrewsbury, Pa./Calvert Hall), rounded out the 2010 All-CAC first team with their first career conference post-season nods.
Gallaudet, which competed in the CAC for the last time prior to moving to the North Eastern Athletic Conference in 2010-11, placed sophomore Jeremy Shepps (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) on the All-CAC second team. Shepps threw a complete-game, added two extra-base hits and scoring the winning run when the Bison snapped a 13-year conference losing streak with a win over Stevenson on April 2.
