Dye's Double-Double Leads UMW Women's Basketball Past Wesley, 63-43

WESLEY, DEL. - Freshman center Carol Dye (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to pace four players in double figures as the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team topped Wesley College, 63-43, on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action. UMW improves to 14-3 on the season, and 9-0 in CAC play.

The Eagles got a team-high 14 points and six rebounds from sophomore guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale), who made 6-12 from the floor, including 2-3 three pointers. Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored 11 points and grabbed six boards, and senior guard Ashley Reed (Fairfax Station, Va., Robinson) had 10 points and five assists. Claire Brooks (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run) had seven points and nine rebounds for the Eagles.

UMW jumped out to an early lead, posting as much as an eight point advantage four minutes into the game. The Eagles led, 28-18, at halftime.

The second half started with the Eagles upping the lead to 35-18 by scoring the first seven points of the half. UMW extended the lead to as many as 19 before Wesley made a run to cut the deficit to nine, at 50-41 with 6:29 to play. But the Eagles responded themselves, ending the game on a 13-2 run for the 63-43 victory.

UMW shot 38% for the game, making 5-18 three point attempts. Wesley shot 28%, commiting 14 turnovers.

Mary Washington will visit Gallaudet University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in another CAC battle.
