UMW Softball Advances To and Falls in CAC Championship

The University of Mary Washington softball team defeated York College, 2-1, in 12 innings, before falling to Salisbury University, 8-0, in the Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles close the season with a record of 25-16-1.
The Eagles needed 12 innings to top York in the semifinal game, 2-1. Senior Cathy Hull drove in Nikkoah Chitty with the bases loaded and one out in the 12th for the game-winning run. Hull also scored the Eagles' first run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. For the day, she went 2-5 with a walk. Left fielder Amanda Adams also collected two hits for the Eagles in game one. Senior Kirsten Rowell allowed just one earned run in 12 innings, with three walks and 11 strikeouts for her 19th win of the year.
UMW dropped the championship to Salisbury, 8-0. Elizabeth Crowe and Julianne Sudduth had UMW's two hits on the day. Salisbury had eight runs on eight hits, and UMW committed three errors. Nicole Foster and Kirsten Rowell each allowed two earned runs in the loss.
The Eagles close the season with a record of 25-16-1, and surpass the 25-win plateau for the third time in four years.
