UMW Women's Lax Falls to #11 Catholic, 19-14, in NCAA Tournament Second Round

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end in the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament with Saturday's 19-14 loss to 11th ranked Catholic University in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles close the year with a record of 14-8.
The Eagles jumped ahead early, holding a 4-2 lead with 10:13 left in the first half. Jenny Atmar, Brittany Butler, Katie Wallis, and Catherine Kennedy provided the scores. But Catholic responded with four straight goals of its own, to gain a 6-4 lead. Freshman Allie Kimmelman scored the first of her four goals to cut the deficit to 6-5, but CUA went on a momentum-taking 4-0 run to up the advantage to 10-5 in the final minute of the half. Senior Julia Milner cut the deficit to 10-6 just before halftime.
Catholic scored four of the first five goals of the second half to up the lead to 14-7, but the Eagles went on a 5-1 scoring spree to cut the margin to 15-12 with 16:20 left. The Cards closed out the game by scoring four of the final six goals.
Kimmelman led UMW with four goals and two assists, while Brittany Butler added three goals. Freshman Lauren Callison scored twice and added two assists. Catholic was led by Kate Robinson's eight goals.
UMW freshman goalie Danni Guigli had nine saves for the Eagles, who were outshot, 43-35, in the game. Catholic held a 22-13 advantage on draw controls.
